Welcome to the Interana live demo guide! People in almost every role and industry use Interana to grow and optimize all kinds of digital services. Interana is all in one software that lets you answer any question about behavior — by yourself — right away. If you're here, it's likely because you're interested in getting a taste of what we can do and what it feels like to use our software. You're probably deeply involved in defining the products or growing the market for your digital business. Maybe you've heard of us from somebody currently using Interana. Maybe you're searching for a way to better understand the behavior of your people or devices and  found us online. Or maybe your organization is already using Interana and you'd like a self-paced introduction to using the software. Whatever your motivation, we're glad you're here! Our goal is to help you understand how to tap into the power and flexibility of Interana software to explore your own questions about behaviors in digital businesses. 

You'll be using this guide along with the Interana live demo system. Together, they'll help you experience the power of Interana’s behavioral analytics. You'll explore an interesting live data set, create your own queries, save charts, and define reusable query components. If you only have a few minutes and want a small taste, take the 5 minute tour to  see what Interana can do for you. If you stick with it, an hour of your time will give you a solid grasp of how to use Interana software to answer behavioral questions in your own data.

This demo is not for passive viewers. You will be running live queries and creating objects that can be saved for later use. As you work on the system, be confident that you can do no harm. You can return to your saved work as often as you like while following this demo guide. We'll periodically clean up stale users and what they built, but you should have plenty of time to complete the entire guide.

Live dataset

We're using the publicly-available recent changes data from Wikipedia. The data reveals the activities of people (and bots) who make changes to various parts of Wikipedia. We chose the Wikipedia dataset for a number of reasons. The contents of Wikipedia are always topical, and there's something of interest for everybody. It's also a somewhat unusual application: there are aspects of human-driven and automated work, rapid evolution of content, interactions between users, and a constant effort to protect from attacks. Aspects of the workflows can map to many different applications and industries. And importantly, anybody can edit Wikipedia and see their changes reflected in the data. Once you get the hang of it, you can even try editing Wikipedia and watch your changes show up in the system a few minutes later. 

As interesting as the Wikipedia data may be, the techniques you'll learn are universal and can be used to understand digital behavior across many different domains. This demo with the Wikipedia data is great as a starting point, but trying our software on your own data is the best way to see the value of Interana. When you're ready, please get in touch. We've tried to make the guide as clear and accessible to all as possible. But some of the terms may not be familiar if you're in a role where behavioral analytics isn't a big part of your job role (e.g., a product manager, marketer, business executive, etc.). It may be helpful to occasionally check out the Interana glossary.

In particular, we'll be working with query constructs that are collectively referred to as named expressions. This is a collective term for cohorts, metrics, sessions, and funnels. Because Interana performs all the work when the query is run, these are simply named definitions of the analysis that needs to be performed. An expression specifying the work: hence the term "named expression".
