Trail of breadcrumbs

A trail of breadcrumbs, also known as breadcrumb navigation, is a graphical control element. The navigational aid is used in user interfaces to give users a visual method for keeping track of their location in an application, document, or on a website. The term comes from the trail of bread crumbs left by Hansel and Gretel in the fairy tale of the same name.
